Djibouti is the home of resting migrating whale sharks between Octobers and beginning of Februarys. These large pelagic animals have cruised here from as far as the Seychelles and the Maldives, through the Indian Ocean towards the shore of Mozambique and then up north along the shores of Tanzania, Kenya, as far north as the Gulf of Aden and Djibouti.

The season of whale sharks attracts not only tourist but also European diving centre to come to Djibouti for working during this season. It is really amazing and breathe taking when snorkelling and swimming with the biggest fish in the world, a whale shark of 15 meters long.
